evan ray suzuki is a dance & performance artist and filmmaker of yonsei Japanese descent originally from Whidbey Island, WA, currently based in Brooklyn, NY.
As a choreographer, evan creates new projects in a butoh-ish choreographic style. evan’s work has been presented internationally at the Umbria Factory Festival in Spoleto, Italy, and at venues such as Ars Nova, JACK, Abrons Arts Center, Center for Performance Research, PAGEANT, Trans-Pecos, Icebox Project Space, WestFest, DCTV, and many parks, galleries, and basements. Recent projects have been supported by grants and residencies from the New York State Council on the Arts, The Foundation for Contemporary Arts, La MaMa, Ars Nova, New Dance Alliance, Amanda+James, and Centro Umbro di Residenze Artistiche.
As a performer, evan’s credits include works with Kim Brandt, maura nguyễn donohue, Ayano Elson, Gordon Hall, David Neumann, Mina Nishimura, Glenn Potter-Takata, and the Japanese Folk Dance Institute of New York at venues such as New York Fashion Week, Beach Sessions Dance Series, The Kitchen, Danspace Project, La MaMa Etc., and many others. Member of La MaMa’s Great Jones Repertory Company since 2023.
As a director and movement director, evan is involved in a variety of film and live projects ranging from music videos to narrative films. evan is the archival videographer for PAGEANT, an artist-run performance space in East Willamsburg, Brooklyn, Associate Director of Creative Services at Sarah Lawrence College, and a freelance photographer and cinematographer.
