thewaves-or-untitled
a virtual devised dance theater project
conceived, choreographed & directed by evan ray suzuki
A deconstruction of Virginia Woolf's experimental 1931 novel, "The Waves," through writing, dance, and experimental performance. Engaging with these forms, we superimposed our own content and crafted new stories from personal narratives and interests, highlighting fascinations with internet culture, digital sexuality, cinematic memory, and popular media. Initially conceived as a live performance, the project was adapted for a digital presentation in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, becoming a literal embodiment of the interest in the relationship between selfhood and a postinternet landscape.
